Most common comparison mistake: One quote is for a bare machine and another includes dealer-installed accessories, but the buyer compares only the headline vehicle price or monthly payment.

Anatomy of a UTV dealer quote

Part of dealWhat to captureWhy it matters
UnitYear, make, model, trim, VIN and written selling priceSimilar trim names can carry materially different equipment and MSRP
Freight/destinationManufacturer-published reference and dealer chargeSimilar labels may represent different amounts
Setup/PDIWork performed and priceIt is part of dealer-side transaction cost, not a tax
Doc/adminExact dealer processing lineCompare net OTD even if the dealer will not change the label
AccessoriesEach part, labor price and installation sourceLarge bundles can obscure thousands of dollars
Protection/finance productsPrice, term, coverage and cancellation rulesProducts may be financed and disappear into payment
GovernmentTax, title, registration or OHV chargesRules can differ by location and intended use
UTV OTD = written unit price + dealer charges + accepted installed equipment/products + applicable government charges − documented discounts

Make every UTV accessory visible

Roofs, windshields, rear panels, winches, bumpers, mirrors, lighting, wheels, tires, heaters, audio and storage can be useful—and expensive. “Loaded” is not an itemization. Ask the dealer to show the manufacturer, part number, unit price and installation labor for each component.

Then compare three things:

  1. the same accessory installed by another dealer;
  2. the genuine or aftermarket part purchased separately;
  3. the written OTD without any accessory you did not request.

Confirm how dealer-installed equipment affects the base vehicle warranty, accessory warranty and financing. Do not assume every bundled product is factory equipment merely because it is already on the machine.

A low UTV payment can hide a long, expensive loan

UTVs often carry larger balances than entry-level motorcycles or ATVs, making APR and term especially important. Require the amount financed, APR, number of payments and total of payments. Check that cash down and trade equity are not being used to make a costly deal appear inexpensive.

Compare dealer financing with any written bank, credit-union or manufacturer offer for which you may qualify. Promotional rates and rebates may not combine. Run each choice as a complete scenario: same UTV, same equipment, same government charges, then apply the specific price incentive and loan terms.

If the quoted payment does not match the entered amount financed, APR and term, pause and reconcile the contract. The cause could be an incorrect entry, first-payment timing, optional products or another financed amount; a difference alone does not prove misconduct.

Do not apply automobile assumptions automatically

Tax, titling, registration, off-highway permits and street-use treatment vary by state, locality and how the UTV will be used. Agricultural use, residence, trade-ins or modifications can also affect the transaction. Use the responsible government agency as the source and ask the dealer to separate official charges from its own processing fees.

OTD Guard's free screen leaves missing government fees unknown. It does not convert a ZIP code into a guessed tax bill or treat the entire unexplained OTD amount as dealer profit.

A clean written UTV quote request

“Please send a buyer's order for the exact year/model/trim showing: vehicle selling price; manufacturer destination; dealer freight, setup and doc fees; each accessory with parts and labor; each optional protection product; tax/title/registration; and final OTD. Please also show the OTD with no unrequested products. If financing is quoted, include APR, term, amount financed and payment.”

Send the same request to competing dealers and preserve the replies. Compare exact equipment, current availability, quote expiration and payment assumptions. See OTD Guard's evidence methodology and the OTD calculation walkthrough.

UTV dealer fee FAQ

Are UTV freight and setup fees the same?

No. Freight generally refers to transportation, while setup/PDI describes dealer preparation. Verify both and compare the complete written OTD.

Is a roof or winch included in UTV MSRP?

It depends on the exact trim and factory equipment. Dealer-installed parts are not automatically included in base MSRP. Match the official model specification and request an itemized accessory list.

Can I negotiate only the total OTD?

A clear OTD target is useful, but preserve an itemized record so products, tax and financing do not change while the headline total moves. Confirm the final contract matches the agreed equipment.

What loan details should I request?

APR, term, amount financed, number of payments, monthly payment, total of payments and each financed product. Confirm any promotional-rate or rebate eligibility in writing.
