Anatomy of a Jet Ski or PWC dealer quote
| Part of deal | What to capture | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Watercraft | Year, make, model, package, engine, HIN and written selling price | Similar names can carry different equipment and manufacturer prices |
| Destination / transport / freight | Manufacturer-published reference and exact dealer charge | The label alone does not show who set the amount or what it includes |
| Prep / setup / PDI | Work performed and price | Dealer preparation is not automatically included in a starting price |
| Doc / admin | Exact dealer processing line | Compare net OTD even if the dealer will not change the label |
| Trailer | Make, model, VIN, selling price, freight, setup and registration | A missing or bundled trailer can make two quotes look falsely similar |
| Accessories | Each part, labor charge and whether it is factory- or dealer-installed | Audio, covers, racks, safety gear and packages can add substantial cost |
| Protection / finance products | Price, term, coverage and cancellation rules | Products can disappear into the monthly payment |
| Government | Applicable tax, title, vessel registration and trailer registration | Watercraft and trailer rules vary by buyer location |
Use the exact manufacturer page as a price anchor
A starting price is not automatically an out-the-door price. Check the official page for the exact model year and package, then read what the manufacturer excludes. For example, Sea-Doo's U.S. model pages state that transport and preparation are not included, while Kawasaki model pages can list base MSRP and destination separately. Amounts and disclosures can change by model and date.
Current manufacturer starting points:
Save a screenshot or PDF of the manufacturer page you used and note the date. Confirm that a rebate, promotional APR or package shown online applies to the exact unit and can be combined with the quoted selling price.
Treat the trailer as its own transaction
Do not accept “trailer included” as the entire description. Require the trailer's manufacturer, model, year, VIN, condition and selling price. Then separate its freight or setup, tax, title and registration. For a two-watercraft package, also confirm whether the trailer is a single- or double-place model and whether tie-downs or accessories are included.
Compare the watercraft-only OTD, trailer-only OTD and combined OTD. That makes it harder for a discount on one part of the package to hide a markup or unrequested product on another.
Compare incentives and financing as complete scenarios
A low payment can come from a long term, cash down or a financed trailer and products—not necessarily a good price. Require the amount financed, APR, term, payment, number of payments and total of payments. Compare any manufacturer promotional rate, rebate and outside preapproval using the same watercraft, trailer and accepted accessories.
If a promotional APR and rebate cannot be combined, calculate both complete deals. Do not compare the payment from one scenario with the selling price from another.
Government charges depend on where and how you register
Personal-watercraft titling, vessel registration, sales or use tax, trailer title/registration and local charges vary by state. Ask the dealer to identify the government agency and separate official charges from dealer processing. Verify them with your state boating, wildlife, natural-resources, tax or motor-vehicle agency rather than copying automobile assumptions.

A clean written PWC quote request
“Please send a buyer's order for the exact year/make/model/package showing: watercraft selling price; manufacturer destination or transport; dealer freight, prep/setup and doc fees; every accessory with parts and labor; the trailer make/model/VIN and its separate price and charges; optional protection products; watercraft and trailer tax/title/registration; and the final OTD. Please also show the OTD with no unrequested products. If financing is quoted, include APR, term, amount financed, payment and total of payments.”
Send the same request to competing dealers and compare the exact package—not the advertised price or monthly payment alone. See OTD Guard's evidence methodology and use the OTD quote-screening calculator; the transaction fields apply across powersports categories.
Jet Ski and PWC dealer-fee FAQ
What fees are added to a PWC?
Common lines include destination or transport, prep/PDI, documentation, trailer costs, accessories, protection products, financing and applicable tax, title or registration. The names and amounts vary, so compare the complete written OTD.
Are Sea-Doo, WaveRunner or Jet Ski freight and prep fees negotiable?
Dealer-imposed charges and the selling price may be negotiable; government charges generally are not controlled by the dealer. Verify manufacturer references, then negotiate the net OTD.
Is the trailer included in the advertised PWC price?
Not automatically. Require the trailer details and price in writing. Confirm its freight/setup, title, registration and tax instead of assuming “included” means no additional cost.
Is Jet Ski the same as PWC?
PWC is the general category. Jet Ski is Kawasaki's brand name; Sea-Doo and Yamaha WaveRunner are other well-known brands.
What loan details should I request?
APR, term, amount financed, number of payments, monthly payment, total of payments and every financed product. Evaluate the watercraft and trailer prices before choosing a payment.
